Our baker has ServSafe Food Handling and ServSafe Allergen certifications, emphasizing our commitment to quality and safety.

Where Can I Purchase Charlie & Jax Products?

Charlie & Jax products are available at local farmers' markets and handmade goods markets across Kansas. For details on upcoming markets, visit our "Events" page and follow us on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates. Products can also be ordered on our website and shipped exclusively to Kansas addresses.

Why Are Your Products Only Available in Kansas?

Every product handmade by Charlie & Jax meets the requirements and is registered with the Kansas Department of Agriculture. Each U.S. state has its own set of guidelines, registration processes, and fees. At this time, Charlie & Jax has chosen to register our products exclusively in Kansas. This decision will be routinely reviewed and may be adjusted in the future based on market demand and production capacity.

Can Humans Eat Your Baked Treats?

All our treats are crafted from 100% human-grade ingredients, so they are safe for human consumption. However, keep in mind that while they're perfectly edible, they're formulated with flavors and textures that cater to the canine palate. So, while your furry friends might find them irresistible, two-legged family members might not share the same enthusiasm for the taste and texture.

What Is The Texture Of Your Baked Treats?

We bake our cakes, cupcakes, brownies, pies, and donuts to perfection, with a moist and tender texture that your pets will love. Our biscuits and cookies are intentionally made to have a satisfyingly hard and crunchy texture, perfect for nibbling on.

What Are The Recommended Portions And Serving Sizes?

It's important to remember that our treats are designed to complement, not substitute, your dog’s daily meals. Ideally, treats should contribute 10% or less to your dog’s daily calorie intake. Similar to how humans enjoy cake one slice at a time, our canine-friendly cakes are intended to be served in slices, not as a whole. For larger treats like biscuits, cookies, and pies, we recommend cutting them into smaller pieces. This way, they can either be savored in moderation over several days or shared among furry friends.

How Should I Store My Cakes And Other Baked Treats?

For Unopened Cakes:

  • Immediate Use: If you plan to use the cake within 3 days of receiving, it should be stored in the refrigerator.
  • For Later Use: To preserve for a longer period of time, store the unopened cake in the freezer in its original packaging for up to 3 months. To enjoy it later, simply thaw it at room temperature the night before serving. (Pup tip: Ensure the cake is out of your pup's reach while thawing!)
  • Optimal Storage: To minimize exposure to air and temperature changes, store the container at the back or bottom of the freezer, especially if your freezer is opened frequently.

For Leftover Cake:

  • Leftovers can be kept in the freezer for up to 3 months.
    • Method 1 (Using Plastic Wrap):
      • Wrap the Cake: Tightly wrap the remaining cake in a layer of plastic wrap.
      • Add a Protective Layer: Cover the plastic-wrapped cake with a layer of aluminum foil.
      • Seal and Store: Place the wrapped cake in a sealed freezer bag or container.
    • Method 2 (Plastic-Free option):
      • Portion the Cake: Slice the cake into your preferred serving sizes.
      • Space & Freeze: Arrange the cake pieces on a baking sheet, oven tray, or any suitable container, ensuring there is space between each piece to prevent them from sticking together when frozen. Place the tray in the freezer until the cake pieces are fully frozen.
      • Repackage & Store: Once the cake portions are frozen, transfer them to a tightly sealed container of your choice. The frozen pieces can be stored touching each other or even layered. For additional separation, you can use wax, parchment, or beeswax paper.
  • Optimal Storage: To minimize exposure to air and temperature changes, store the container at the back or bottom of the freezer, especially if your freezer is opened frequently.
  • Thaw Before Serving: Thaw the cake at room temperature before serving. (Pup tip: Ensure the cake is out of your pup's reach while thawing!)

For Soft Baked Treats (Such as brownies, pupcakes, muffins, donuts, pies, and pup tarts):

Immediate Use: If you plan to use the soft baked treats within 3 days of receiving, store in the refrigerator.

For Later Use:  To preserve for a longer period of time, store the soft baked treats in the freezer for up to 3 months.

      • Wrap the soft baked goods: Tightly wrap the remaining treats in a layer of plastic wrap.
      • Add a Protective Layer: Cover the plastic-wrapped treats with a layer of aluminum foil.
      • Seal and Store: Place the wrapped treats in a sealed freezer bag or container.
  • Method 2 (Plastic-Free option):
      • Portion the Soft Baked Goods: Separate the soft baked goods into your preferred serving sizes.
      • Space & Freeze: Arrange the soft baked good pieces on a baking sheet, oven tray, or any suitable container, ensuring there is space between each piece to prevent them from sticking together when frozen. Place the tray in the freezer until the pieces are fully frozen.
      • Repackage & Store: Once the soft baked goods are frozen, transfer them to a tightly sealed container of your choice. The frozen pieces can be stored touching each other or even layered. For additional separation, you can use wax, parchment, or beeswax paper.

For Hard Baked Treats (Biscuits and Cookies):

    • These treats are best kept at room temperature sealed in their original packaging or any tightly sealed container for up to 6 months. Refrigerating or freezing these hard treats is not advised as it may introduce moisture and shorten their shelf life upon thawing.
