How Should I Store My Cakes And Other Baked Treats?
For Unopened Cakes:
- Immediate Use: If you plan to use the cake within 3 days of receiving, it should be stored in the refrigerator.
- For Later Use: To preserve for a longer period of time, store the unopened cake in the freezer in its original packaging for up to 3 months. To enjoy it later, simply thaw it at room temperature the night before serving. (Pup tip: Ensure the cake is out of your pup's reach while thawing!)
- Optimal Storage: To minimize exposure to air and temperature changes, store the container at the back or bottom of the freezer, especially if your freezer is opened frequently.
For Leftover Cake:
- Leftovers can be kept in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- Method 1 (Using Plastic Wrap):
- Wrap the Cake: Tightly wrap the remaining cake in a layer of plastic wrap.
- Add a Protective Layer: Cover the plastic-wrapped cake with a layer of aluminum foil.
- Seal and Store: Place the wrapped cake in a sealed freezer bag or container.
- Method 2 (Plastic-Free option):
- Portion the Cake: Slice the cake into your preferred serving sizes.
- Space & Freeze: Arrange the cake pieces on a baking sheet, oven tray, or any suitable container, ensuring there is space between each piece to prevent them from sticking together when frozen. Place the tray in the freezer until the cake pieces are fully frozen.
- Repackage & Store: Once the cake portions are frozen, transfer them to a tightly sealed container of your choice. The frozen pieces can be stored touching each other or even layered. For additional separation, you can use wax, parchment, or beeswax paper.
- Optimal Storage: To minimize exposure to air and temperature changes, store the container at the back or bottom of the freezer, especially if your freezer is opened frequently.
